We all have times in our lives when we need to share our feelings in a way that is not always possible with family and friends and we need to feel supported and respected without feeling judged.
Many people who decide to seek counselling or life coaching are often unclear about exactly what is involved. Counselling is not about giving advice, but offers you a safe, supported and confidential environment in which to explore your problems, in order to help clarify your thoughts and feelings around emotional and personal issues. It gives you the space to listen to yourself and to be heard and to decide which steps you might take. Or, if the situation cannot be changed, to work with the counsellor to help you to come to terms with it and find ways to move forward with your life. It involves the skills of listening, supporting and helping to facilitate insight into your own personal resources, which can sometimes get lost in times of stress and anxiety.
Counselling can work with a wide variety of different issues, including relationship problems, personal and work stress, depression, anxiety, bereavement and many others.
Sometimes you might feel that life coaching is what you need and in some cases counselling can also lead into coaching. See Life Coaching section for more information.
